Imagine this: while we sleep, hundreds of AI residents wake up in a virtual village inside a computer. These are not merely programs following a set script; they converse, create new trends, and even propagate their own religions. Recently, the scientific community has been conducting fascinating experiments using AI agents (artificial intelligence that can judge and act on its own with specific goals) to build virtual civilizations and study the social phenomena that emerge within them.
Why is this important?
Until now, AI has largely remained a “personal assistant,” answering our questions or drawing pictures. But now, AI agents have begun to gather among themselves to form a “society.” This is not just a curious digital game. By studying how AI societies form, why they experience conflict, and why certain cultures spread while others vanish, we can gain a deeper understanding of the complex principles of human society.
